Why Walla Walla?

Jesús Martínez Bujanda, fifth-generation CEO of the family's winemaking business, attended the University of Washington. He fell in love with the Walla Walla Valley while he was a student. His passion for winemaking and for the valley led him to create Valdemar Estates. Here, his mission is to seek the finest land and fruit that Washington state has to offer and make benchmark wines. His dream is to build upon the long-standing legacies of Walla Walla wineries that have paved the way for others here. We do not aim to be a Spanish winery in Walla Walla, but rather to build upon a timeless winemaking legacy in a new and dynamic region.

Who We Are

Our family has been growing grapes and making wine since 1889 in Rioja, Spain. We have made our home in Walla Walla. Here, we will write a new and exciting chapter of our story and pass along our timeless winemaking legacy to the sixth generation of our family.

We’ve made wine in Spain for the past five generations, and we plan to make wine in Walla Walla for five generations to come.
