Our Vineyards

A singular commitment to quality guides both our winemaking and vineyard site choices. For five generations, our family has known that great wines are made in the vineyard. We maintain this belief as we begin to explore the potential of the Washington landscape.

Currently, our estate vineyards are being planted with a diversity of varietals. These will include the tried-and-true grapes of Washington – Cabernet, Chardonnnay, Syrah and Grenache – as well as a handful of varietals indigenous to Rioja – Viura, Maturana, and Tempranillo Blanco. Our aim is to create wines with distinctive character, freshness, and acidity that, above all, will leave a lasting impression.

Terroir

Our search for new and exciting vineyard sites led us to the foothills of the Blue Mountains – an area locals call “The North Fork,” because the North Fork of the Walla Walla River meanders along the bottom of the canyon. As you drive southeast from Walla Walla, the flat, rocky terrain of the valley floor transforms into steep draws and weathered slopes. This untamed site rises to elevations of almost 2,100 feet and experiences more moderate temperatures than those found on the valley floor. Proximity to the Blue Mountains allows for more rainfall than other areas of the Walla Walla AVA. This, coupled with favorable sunlight exposures, allows for a prolonged growing season, producing fruit of depth, concentration, and unparalleled complexity.

Terroir

Our vineyard is located within the portion of The Rocks District that qualifies as part of the Walla Walla Valley AVA. The Rocks is well known for its unique soil type – deep soils of weathered cobble stones in the ancient riverbed of the Walla Walla River. Fertile soils aid in the cultivation of healthy vines; however, the growing season is compressed and intense, with added heat radiating from the stones in the summer. Careful attention is required every vintage to bring forth the purest expression of this unique terroir. These soils produce wines with a distinct aromatic profile. Through rigorous selection and reduced yields, we expect to produce compelling wines of great intensity from this vineyard site.
